Cambridge City Council is one of the first local authorities in the country to re-establish its own house building programme. We have a strong commitment not just to ensure that new housing is built and can be maintained to high sustainability standards, but that it has a positive impact on the health and wellbeing of our residents, addressing issues such as fuel poverty. Moving forward, climate change adaptation is a key issue, dealing with issues such as overheating and water stress. And, even in an affluent area such as Cambridge, fuel poverty is a key issue for many of our residents, so building well-designed, comfortable homes that are affordable to live in is a priority.
