The Retrofit Academy CIC is a not-for-profit training company dedicated to retrofitting. Retrofit is the improvement of buildings through the installation of energy efficiency measures ranging from insulation to low carbon heat.
We work with leading experts to develop and deliver qualifications that equip people with the knowledge and skills to deliver retrofit excellence.
Our main focus is on the role of the Retrofit Coordinator. The Retrofit Academy team first conceived of that role a decade ago, long before it was fashionable. Put simply, we realised that retrofit projects that succeed have somebody in charge of them who really knows what they are doing. We spent several years building the case for Retrofit Coordinators through the Hansford Review and Each Home Counts Reviews.
The role has been made mandatory for retrofit projects delivered under BSI PAS 2035 – the code of practice for retrofit introduced in June 2019. We developed the Level 5 Diploma in Retrofit Coordination and Risk Management in partnership with CITB and the Open College Network West Midlands.
